If you can't make it to TIFF, there is no shortage of images to at least make it feel like you're there. And they continue to roll out as the festival finalizes its slate. And let's continue to dip into it…
Cate Shortland will be making her long awaited return with her sophomore feature effort "Lore," which makes its North American premiere at TIFF. The film follows her debut "Somersault" from way back in 2004, which not only put her on the map, but also her young leads, Abbie Cornish and Sam Worthington. This film will be quiet different from the small town story of its predecessor. Music Box Films has picked up the U.S. rights to the picture — here's the official synopsis: After her Nazi parents are imprisoned, Lore leads her younger siblings across a war-torn Germany in 1945. Amidst the chaos, she encounters the mysterious refugee Thomas, who shatters her fragile reality with hatred and desire. To live, she must trust someone she was taught to hate and face the darkness within herself.
Meanwhile, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Christopher Walken, Catherine Keener and Mark Ivanir will get together to form "A Late Quartet." A few more pics have arrived from the film, which finds our leads exercising their classical music muscles. Here's the official synopsis: When the beloved cellist of a world-renowned string quartet is diagnosed with a life threatening illness, the group’s future suddenly hangs in the balance as suppressed emotions, competing egos and uncontrollable passions threaten to derail years of friendship and collaboration. As they are about to play their 25th anniversary concert — quite possibly their last — only their intimate bond and the power of music can preserve their legacy.
Enterainment One will bring the film to theaters.
