Got a Tip?

New Image Of Tom Hardy In ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ Will Plot Fill The Gap Between ‘Mad Max’ & ‘Road Warrior’?

Mad Max: Fury Road

With production starting in 2012, reshoots taking place last fall, and a lengthy post-production process that won’t see the movie released until next fall, as of right now there aren’t many details about George Miller‘s “Mad Max: Fury Road.” It’s a return to the Aussie franchise with Tom Hardy now taking the name Max Rockatansky, but a new peek has arrived.

A fresh image surfaced online in the past couple of days (via Reddit), with Tom Hardy looking appropriately gritty on top of a big rig. But what about the plot? What will this one actually be about? All we really know is that it might start a new trilogy, but where will it fit in the lineage of movies? Perhaps the following is a clue. Towards the end of 2013, some savvy fans noticed that the Wikipedia page for “Mad Max: Fury Road” had been updated with a pretty thorough plot description. It was eventually yanked, but not before a few Tumblr pages preserved the edit. Here it is (via Exploring Tom Hardy):

In the newest edition of the Mad Max series, he will be portrayed by the actor Tom Hardy, and will take place before the second installment. The story will fill the gap of how Max transitioned from a rogue police officer to a survivalist in the Outback as he was portrayed in the second and third film installment.

Shortly after avenging his wife and son’s death Max Rockatansky has left the MFP and he left for the Outback, and he is now on his own, as the world slowly plummets in the aftermath of the oil crisis and the global war. With nothing except his powerful Pursuit Special, Max now has to learn how to survive the post-apocalyptic wastelands and battle the fierce, ruthless warriors who inhabit them.

Again, this is not official and it could be totally wrong, but it would go a long way in explaining this new iteration of the character and how he fits the timeline. Something to consider as we continue to wait until May 15, 2015.

  1. That photo of Hardy is about 5 months old now and been doing the rounds since then. The Wikipedia thing was nonsense and included Mel Gibson as "The Drifter" and I'm the one who edited it months back to what it says now based on that George Miller has NEVER said the film was a sequel or "interquel" whatever.

Sadly AICN, JoBlo etc are now picking up on this as "news" when it's all old and misinformation.
