New ‘Bones & All’ Clip: Luca Guadagnino’s Latest Premieres At The Venice Film Festival

There’s always a great selection of films competing at the Venice Film Festival every year for the coveted Golden Lion. However, the competition at the festival’s 79th edition looks especially fierce. So, who will walk away from the Lido this year with Venice’s top prize? How about one of the Netflix films in competition, like Andrew Dominik‘s “Blonde” or Noah Baumbach‘s festival opener, “White Noise“? Maybe Martin McDonagh‘s “The Banshees of Inisherin“? Or perhaps Darren Aronofsky‘s latest, “The Whale“?

Many films and their directors may hoist up the Golden Lion at the festival’s end, but Luca Guadagnino‘s latest, “Bones & All,” may be the odds-on favorite. Guadagnino’s new film sees him reunite with screenwriter David Kajganich and “Call Me By Your Name” star Timothée Chalamet for a story about young cannibals who fall in love on the fringes of society in 1980s America. And now, leading up to the film’s premiere tomorrow, there’s a new clip from the film to watch.

In the short clip, Taylor Russell‘s Maren asks Chalamet’s Lee what something feels like. Given the movie’s plot, it’s easy to surmise that “something” is cannibalism, and Lee tells Maren what a rush it is and how he feels like “a weird new superhero.” So, not a clip that gives a lot away, nor one that’s violent or graphic, but it’s suggestive of the film’s queasily romantic tone.

“Bones & All” also stars Michael Stuhlbarg, also in 2017’s “Call Me By Your Name,” Mark Rylance, André Holland, “Suspiria” star Jessica Harper, Chloë Sevigny, and filmmaker David Gordon GreenFrancesca Scorsese, Anna Cobb, Jake Horowitz, and Kendle Coffey round out the main cast.  Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross compose music for the film.

After “Bones & All” has its world premiere in Venice on September 2, the film also screens at the New York Film Festival and Fantastic Fest. The film then hits US theaters on November 23. And Guadagnino fans won’t have to wait long for his next movie. “Challengers,” a romantic tennis comedy starring Zendaya, is already in post-production and set for an August 11, 2023 theatrical release. But expect that film to have a festival premiere beforehand, probably at Cannes 2023.
