Paramount is once again leaning on Netflix to take one of the studio’s films. It’s just this time, the studio is asking the streaming platform to distribute a film that hasn’t even begun production. And the film, “Beverly Hills Cop 4,” is one of the most anticipated sequels of the next couple of years.
According to Variety, Netflix has landed the distribution rights to the upcoming Paramount film “Beverly Hills Cop 4.” The move comes on the heels of the successful launch of Netflix’s recent film “Dolemite is My Name,” which has been getting rave reviews and awards chatter for its star Eddie Murphy. Now, it appears that the streaming service wants to keep the relationship with the actor going with the upcoming sequel.

Not much is known about “Beverly Hills Cop 4,” other than the fact that Paramount is still producing it (as it did with the previous three films) and Jerry Bruckheimer is involved once again. Last month, Murphy revealed that he planned on shooting the film directly following the production of his other highly-anticipated sequel, “Coming 2 America,” which is shooting as we speak.
Previously, Paramount had worked with Netflix to distribute some high profile films such as “The Cloverfield Paradox” and “Annihilation.” And almost exactly a year ago, the studio announced a deal with Netflix, where it would work with the streaming service to produce and distribute a number of films, including the upcoming sequel to “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.”
There’s no release date set for “Beverly Hills Cop 4,” but a 2021 date is likely.
