Arriving on the tail end of 2016, “The OA” was a late-season surprise from Netflix, even more so by arriving almost completely out of nowhere with only a trailer and a couple of clips a few days before release. And now there’s more coming.
The streaming site has announced they’ve renewed “The OA” for a second season, with Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling to return to their creative roles on the show. Of course, details for “The OA: Part II” as it will be known, are being kept under wraps, but Batmanglij recently shared with us where the next chapter of the story might go.
“Brit and I, before we began, conceived of something sort of like a Rubik’s cube and if we keep going, then I think we’ll stay along that path. But I think it will be equivalent to the experience of watching the first season,” he explained. “I think that one of the important things that I have actually not yet talked about is the idea that if you watch a chapter or two chapters of ‘The OA,’ you can’t possibly understand what later chapters in the season will be like. A novel or a two-hour movie evolves. If you see the first half of a two-hour movie, you don’t usually feel like you know what happens in the second half. And I think that’s a big distinction between ‘The OA’ and other things, is that it’s a continuously evolving story.”
No release date yet for “The OA: Part II” but it’s safe to say sometime in 2018.
