Got a Tip?

Neill Blomkamp Teases Newt For His ‘Alien’ Movie In Latest Concept Art

Aliens NewtThe current status of Neill Blomkamp‘s "Alien" movie is "Maybe when Ridley Scott is finished with ‘Alien: Covenant,’ " but Sigourney Weaver is certainly hoping it’ll happen. But Alien Day is upon us, and Blomkamp has used the opportunity to share some artwork he’s come up with for what looks like an all-grown-up Newt. So, will the character appear in Blomkamp’s "Aliens" followup that will ignore the subsequent sequels? Well, last fall, Michael Biehn said the director’s movie actually put Newt center stage.

"They’re planning on bringing me and Newt back and at this point Newt will be around twenty-seven years old," the actor explained in November. "I know that every actress in Hollywood is going to want to play this one, it’s really a passing of the torch between Sigourney and this younger actress who would play Newt. It would keep the franchise alive and the studios would make money, because that’s what the bottom line is now: money."

So ponder that as you gear up for an "Alien" marathon today. Check out Blomkamp’s work below.

  1. While I appreciate people\’s skepticism around this film ever getting made now due to Scott\’s sudden possessiveness, this project does actually make sense from 20th Century Fox\’s perspective – having Alien sequels and prequels and \’reboots\’ (\’passing the torch\’) and so on running concurrently basically gives them an instant \’shared universe\’, which is the Hollywood fad of the moment.

  2. As someone who enjoys and loves the Assembly Cut of Alien 3, this whole "Alien 3 didn\’t happen" BS is as much as a slap in the face to Alien fans as what George Lucas did with the Special Editions of Star Wars.

  3. I find it ironic that everyone defending Alien 3 makes no mention of Alien Resurrection because you can\’t have one without the other. With that kind of end game in mind I\’m all for whatever insanity Blomkamp\’s got brewing because c\’mon – that concept art is at the very least pretty intriguing.
