It’s been far too long since we’ve had a film from the excellent and dynamic Edgar Wright. The good news is that following his exit from “Ant-Man,” he dusted himself off and is now hard at work on his next film, “Baby Driver.” It marks a far-too-long four-year gap between movies for the filmmaker, but to help alleviate the wait, this epic supercut should do the trick.
“Edgar Wright’s Music Reel” is 25 minutes of the high-energy filmmaking and kinetic cutting that has defined his voice as an auteur. The reel covers Wright’s TV work, a handful of music videos, and songs from each of his four features: “Shaun Of The Dead,” “Hot Fuzz,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,” and “The World’s End.” It’s a great reminder of Wright’s inventive ability to marry music and visuals, and how important that combination is to his directing and editing style, which reached its apex with ‘Scott Pilgrim,’ the rare comic-book film that’s almost a full-blown musical.
