‘Mr. Harrigan’s Phone’ Trailer: John Lee Hancock Directs A Supernatural Stephen King Story Starring Jaeden Martell & Donald Sutherland

Who knows what happens in Stephen King’s mind, the author of such horror classics as “IT” and “The Shining.” It’s a mystery as to how King can conjure up such horrific tales, whether that be a lengthy novel or a short story. King’s latest big-screen adaptation comes from John Lee Hancock’s “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone,” a cautionary tale based on an unlikely friendship between a young boy and a reclusive billionaire in his 80s.

“More than anything, it’s about an odd relationship between a billionaire in his 80s and a young man and the bonds of friendship, and how far will you go for a friend?” Hancock told Tudum recently.

Hancock is not only directing the movie but is writing it too. He’s best known for his work on “Saving Mr. Banks” and “The Blind Side,” but has a love for all things horror and twisted.

“Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” will star Jaeden Martell, who some may recognize from a previous Stephen King project back in 2017, “It.”  Donald Sutherland will play Mr. Harrigan, known for his work on the beloved series “The Hunger Games.”

Joining them will be Joe Tippett (“The Morning Show”), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (“Barry”), Cyrus Arnold (“Zoolander 2”), Colin O’Brien (“Wonka”), Thomas Francis Murphy (“Mindhunter”), and Peggy J. Scott (“Succession”).

Here’s the official synopsis:

When Craig, a young boy living in a small town (Jaeden Martell), befriends Mr. Harrigan, an older, reclusive billionaire (Donald Sutherland), the two begin to form an unlikely bond over their love of books and reading. But when Mr. Harrigan sadly passes away, Craig discovers that not everything is dead and gone and strangely finds himself able to communicate with his friend from the grave through the iPhone in this supernatural coming-of-age story that shows that certain connections are never lost.

“Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” is set to release on Netflix on Wednesday, October 6, 2022.
