Got a Tip?

‘Mortal Instruments’ Producers Constantin Film Pick Up Rights To Cassandra Clare & Holly Black’s ‘The Iron Trial’

nullMove over Stephenie Meyer and Suzanne Collins, you've got some competition in the Young Adult film game. With "Twilight" set to deliver its last installment later this year, and "The Hunger Games" set to capture that market in the future, a new contender is on the block: Her name is Cassandra Clare and she's behind "The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones." The first book in her series is gearing up to start filming later this year and will hit theaters next summer, and if it's a hit, we'll surely see more adventures of Clary and the Shadowhunters. But it looks like her backers are eager to bring some of her other stories to the big screen as well.

Constantin Film, who are producing 'Mortal Instruments,' have snapped up the rights to "The Iron Trial" co-written by Clare and Holly Black. The latter is no slouch herself, having penned "The Spiderwick Chronicles" books (made into a less-than-well-received feature film that did some decent box office nonetheless). The two authors paired on the not-yet-published book "The Iron Trial," a story which once again centers on a young protagonist, this time 12 year old Callum Hunt, who breaks the three rules: 1. Never trust a magician  2. Never pass a test a magician gives you 3. never let a magician take you to the Magisterium. But he does all three and of course, strange things happen.

The duo will team on the screenplay, which is probably a smart idea to make sure it reaches theaters the way they intended. Scholastic will publish the book, though no date has been set, but rest assured fans, there is more than just 'Mortal Instruments' coming your way. And with 20 million books sold between the two writers, that fanbase is huge. [Deadline]
