‘Morning’: Naomi Ackie Joins Benedict Cumberbatch & Laura Dern In Justin Kurzel’s Upcoming Sci-Fi Film

While Naomi Ackie has been acting for a number of years, her first major role to put her on the map in the eyes of many was in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” Since then, she’s lined up a number of major roles, including a starring role in the recently released “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” And the projects keep piling up for Ackie as she just landed yet another big role, this time in the upcoming sci-fi film, “Morning.”

According to THR, Naomi Ackie is the latest actor to join the cast for Justin Kurzel’s new sci-fi film, “Morning.” She’s joining a cast that includes Laura Dern, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Noah Jupe. The film tells the story of a society where sleep has been eliminated due to a new pill and an artificial sun allows for the world to be in perpetual daytime. Of course, we’ve seen this sort of dystopian feature before and wouldn’t you know it, there are some rebels who would like to go back to the world of sleeping and night.

“I’m so excited to get to work with Justin Kurzel and this incredible cast,” said Ackie. “The script is so beautifully written and the world building immaculate. I can’t wait to be a part of creating this piece of work!”

“Morning” is directed by the aforementioned Kurzel, whose most recent film is the acclaimed drama, “Nitram.” The sci-fi film is written by Sam Steiner.

Producer Adam Ackland added, “We are thrilled to have Naomi Ackie join the team on ‘Morning.’ From the moment we read Sam’s brilliant, funny, imaginative script we were gripped by its cinematic potential and relevance… it is about how a community’s drive for productivity has left them with no space to sleep or dream, and how an insurgent younger generation are questioning the status quo, revealing the importance of family, connection and slowing down. We’re so excited to help Justin and the cast and crew bring it to life.”

In addition to her role in “Morning,” Ackie is already set to star in Bong Joon Ho’s new sci-fi film, “Mickey7,” as well as Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut, “Pussy Island.” With this role, along with her previous experience, it’s clear Ackie is one of the biggest up-and-coming actors working today.

There’s no release date set for “Morning,” but production is said to begin later this year.
