Yesterday the jaw of the internet collectively dropped when the first image of Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander hit the web and just when we think we’ve recovered, a new batch of photos are making the rounds from the W magazine shoot, and if we were fifteen years younger in our mopey, listening-to-The-Cure-non-stop teenage years, we would have found our new girlfriend.
These new photos are just as impressive as the magazine cover that circled the web yesterday, and you can bet that by time the Sony marketing machine is finished, Lisbeth Salander is going to be a Hot Topic-esque fashion icon (hint: there is a reason why Sony allowed a fashion magazine to drop the first official photos). Either way, she just looks damn cool and while there is still a subset that is arguing that Noomi Rapace is the only one who can ever be Lisbeth, their protests are getting weaker by the minute.
The David Fincher film about sordid sexual misdeeds and corruption will make Christmas a little bit darker when it lands on December 21st. More pics below.
The photos were taken by Jean-Baptiste Mondino. You know who that is, right? Possibly not, but you should. He’s a rather famous French fashion photographer and music video director, who really doesn’t make music videos that often anymore, but at one point the makers of the now-defunct Director’s Label series wanted to produce a DVD entry of his work. Some of his better known music videos include several for Neneh Cherry, Lenny Kravitz, Madonna (“Human Nature,” “Don’t Tell Me,” “Justify My Love”) “If That’s Your Boyfriend (He Wasn’t Last Night)” by Meshell Ndegeocello, “Violently Happy” by Björk, “Downtown Train” by Tom Waits and “The Boys of Summer” by Don Henley just to name a few.
Why the hell does Hwood think it can produce a better show than the Swedish original? Jump on the bandwagon for a buck. Could be called Fincher\’s Flop.
I\’m American and Hollywood needs to get some damn NEW MATERIAL and stop remaking things!! This film does NOT need to be remade at all. The Swedish version was great. Also Let The Right One In (the vampire film based on the Norwegian or Swedish book) was great, but it had to be made into a Hollywood remake that then tried to ride Twilight and make the vampires have red eyes. Pathetic. I\’ve been turning more and more tro foreign films to get my quality entertainment. I don\’t need to see the remakes \’cause I\’ve already seen the originals, dammit. Hollywood, stop it already!
Why make a new one? The Swedish film rocks and we don´t need another \”americanized\” version of it!!! Why can´t they just *dub* the Swedish film into English? Look at Germany, where *all* films/series etc. are dubbed from whatever language into German.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a mediocre movie. Noomi Rapace is the best part of It. The series only gets worse from there. David Fincher has plenty of room to improve this thing.
\” Their protests are getting weaker by the minute\”? WTF? This images are the reason why people are saying Noomi Rapace is THE ONLY ONE who can play Lisbeth Salander.
Thank you David Fincher for destroying an international piece of work, with your crap.
Oh lord. Reduced to designer labels and painfully contrived photoshoots. Lisbeth Salander wasn\’t a vaguely darker version of Keira Knightley\’s Domino the last time I checked.
Is it so impossible to simply watch the Swedish films? They haven\’t been so successful for nothing.
A tutu? Really? She would never wear a tutu…
Love these, I think this has somehow captured the look an attitude much more than Noomi, who was mostly scowl and angst.
I love this, now make me like Daniel Craig.
