‘Moonage Daydream’ Trailer: Brett Morgen Illuminates The Life & Art of David Bowie In New Cannes Doc

There aren’t many artists that can traverse generations as David Bowie did. The artist continued to make music until the day he died back in 2016. His final album, Blackstar, was released to coincide with his 69th birthday; the record was released just two days before his death.

“Moonage Daydream” is not only a homage to the legendary singer but an experimental odyssey that explores Bowie’s creative, musical, and spiritual journey through life.

From the Oscar-nominated director, Brett Morgen, “Moonage Daydream” will feature never-before-seen footage, performances, and music from Bowie’s career.

Morgen is known for his documentaries on the Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, “Cobain: Montage of Heck” (2015) and “Jane” (2017). Morgen, who wrote, directed, edited, and produced the film, was presented with unfiltered access to Bowie’s personal archives, including all master recordings.

David Bowie is no stranger to the big screen; his role as Jareth in Jim Henson’s “Labyrinth” is still fondly remembered by fans, among dozens of other iconic appearances. The soundtrack for “Labyrinth,” written by Bowie, was his third best-selling soundtrack of all time during its heyday. The audience will be guided by Bowie’s voice, leading them through his life, and it has been the only film to ever be sanctioned by the Bowie Estate.

Here’s the official “Moonage Daydream” synopsis:

It illuminates not only the life but also the genius of Bowie, who worked across several disciplines – most notably music and film –  but also explored art forms throughout his life, including dance, painting, sculpture, video, and audio collage, screenwriting, acting and live theater. The motion picture reveals the icon through his own voice and features 48 of his musical tracks, mixed from their original sterms.
