Got a Tip?

‘Monsters’ Director Gareth Edwards Sci-Fi/Robot Movie Titled ‘Forever’

nullWell, it's been awhile since we've heard anything from "Monsters" director Gareth Edwards. Following the success of his cult genre flick, he landed the director's chair on the "Godzilla" remake that seems to be going nowhere fast and then last summer word arrived he was pitching a movie developed with producer Timur Bekmambetov that was said to be "an epic human story set in a futuristic world without humanity" that would be something akin to "a robot 'Star Wars.' " And then, nothing else was heard. But a few more details about the movie has cropped up.

The folks over at Bleeding Cool chatting with Bekmambetov recently and learned that the film is now titled "Forever," and the screenplay is well on its way. "It’s happening. He shot a test film, and we now have to wait until the script is in place. Gareth is meeting with the writer to polish the script. The writer is Dante Harper," Bekmambetov said.

Harper is no small potatoes, having penned Doug Liman's "All You Need Is Kill" that will shoot this fall as well as the upcoming "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" in addition to having an adapation of Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" kicking around for Roland Emmerich. Again, details on the story haven't yet been spelled out entirely but is said to follow "a young human child (probably around 5 years old) and a robot who travel across the galaxy in search of mankind’s origin in a world void of humanity and filled with robots." Which, basically, sounds amazing.

The budget has previously been reported in the $35 million range which should hopefully make it easier to find studio financing, but it's not clear if "Forever" or "Godzilla" will go first, but you can probably guess which one we'd rather see.
