Despite his fall from Hollywood ranks with the likes of “The Happening,” M. Night Shyamalan still continues to take up oxygen and talk up a sequel to his very-average superhero film “Unbreakable” that seems to have gained a cult following with those that appreciate, not terrible, but decidedly unspectacular films. Meanwhile, Shyamalan’s current project, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” will see a teaser trailer release next Wednesday according to producer Frank Marshall who also adds that plans are for Shyamalan to write and direct a trilogy of ‘Airbender’ films. Jesus, let’s just take it one at a time for now guys. Did anyone tell Shyamalan that having, “Avatar” in the title is probably a bad idea? Or maybe he’s just hoping some uninformed shlep walks intot the wrong picture. [MTV/Twitter/Twitter]
TV host/model Olivia Munn has reportedly joined the cast of Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man 2.” While her role is as of yet unknown, Munn, probably angling for any attention she can get, has been claiming that her appearance will be in excess of her short cameo in her last silver screen appearance, the Rob Schneider led “Big Stan.” Zzzzz. [/Film]
Danielle Panabaker has joined the cast of John Carpenter’s psychological horror “The Ward.” The film follows a girl, played by Amber Heard, who is admitted to a psychiatric ward, meets other girls there with distinct personalities and discovers a mysterious girl haunting the halls at night. [THR]
“SNL” actor Jason Sudeikis has joined the Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston rom-com vehicle “Bounty Hunter,” a film that will follow a bounty hunter hired to track down his ex-wife, Casidy, who has skipped out on bail. What’s up with Butler and his rom-coms? [Reuters]
Here’s a trailer for the Dominic Sena’s “Whiteout.” Starring Kate Beckinsale and Gabriel Macht, “Whiteout” centers on a U.S. Marshall’s attempt to solve the first ever murder committed in Antarctica before the arctic winters kicks in and a six month reign of darkness falls. Sena started his career auspiciously with the dark serial-killer film “Kalifornia,” starring a then, lesser-known Brad Pitt (plus David Duchovny and Juliette Lewis), but soon fell down the path of the totally banal and generic (“Swordfish,” “Gone In Sixty Seconds”). This looks like more of the same; garden-variety thriller with zero personality. The narration in this thing is pretty laughable too and sounds like it was read by a robot. Remember when Kate Beckinsale actually tried? [Trailer Addict]
Color me surprised that the trailer wasn't a Burger King commercial.
Yikes! That IS lousy narration. Well, it's good to see that HAL survived 2010.
And didn't Beckinsale do a nude scene in this film that some tabloid claimed she used a double for?
"Fall from the Hollywood ranks"? Yeah, totally! That's why Paramount gave Shyamalan a few hundred million to make "Airbender" (which, by the way Dawg, lost the 'Avatar' bit about six months or more ago). He may not command respect from naval-gazing bloggers anymore, but, um, so what? Also, Unbreakable is badass
Unbreakable: terrible
The budget for The Last Airbender is over $200 million? Also, find us someone who still respects M Night Shyamalan.
