Writer/director Mike Flanagan (“Doctor Sleep“) is back at Netflix with his new series “Midnight Mass” after previously giving us ghost stories in “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor.”
“Midnight Mass” focuses on the small isolated community of Crockett Island. Existing divisions are increased with the return of a disgraced resident alongside the arrival of Father Paul, a charismatic priest. Religious fervor takes hold of the island after a string of unexplained miraculous events occur.

Flanagan is also behind “The Midnight Club,” an anthology horror show at the streaming giant that sounds a bit like an adult spin on The Midnight Society from “Are You Afraid of The Dark?” with a group of terminally ill patients coming together to tell each spooky stories and is based on the Christopher Pike (Kevin Christopher McFadden) novel that was published in 1994. Cast members from “Midnight Mass” will also appear in “The Midnight Club.”
Netflix is quickly becoming the place for nifty horror shows with Guillermo del Toro‘s high-end anthology series “Cabinet of Curiosities“ is in production in Toronto, and the streamer is reportedly eyeing the “Overlook” series from producer J.J. Abrams, a prequel to Stanley Kubrick‘s classic pic “The Shining.” Mike Flanagan feels like the right person to team with Abrams on “Overlook” after making “Doctor Sleep,” a sequel to the Stephen King tale.
