What’s the sound? Is it the sound of an Oscar slowly slipping through ones hands? Mickey Rourke (or his publicists and management) have probably realized that recent talk about appearing at the WWE’s “Wrestlemania” and allegedly making out with his very-younger co-star Evan Rachel Wood was ruining whatever chances he had left of winning an Oscar, so the actor has pulled out of the wrestling appearance.
Shortly after appearing on a clownish segment on Larry King with wrestler, Chris Jericho, “The Wrestler” star’s publicist emailed Defamer and said:
“Mickey was very honored to be asked as he has the greatest respect for WWE however he will not be participating in Wrestle-Mania. He is focusing entirely on his acting career.”
Translation: We want Mickey to stop this nonsense, so he totally doesn’t blow it all over again. Rourke might have played a grappler in “The Wrestler,” but playing one in a film and showing up to one of their monster truck-like events is another and totally less offensive in the eyes of the Brandy-sniffing Academy wethinks. Defamer says crisis averted, but after Sean Penn won the SAG award and all the gossipy nonsense that’s been following Rourke in the last week, we’re not so sure. It might just be: stick a fork in him, he’s done.
God forbid our award nominees have some fun here and there.
They’re totally allowed to have fun.*
