“All The Money In The World” might be the name of Ridley Scott‘s next movie, but it may also refer to the money it’s going to cost to get what could turn out to be an all-star ensemble for the movie.

Michelle Williams, Kevin Spacey, and Mark Wahlberg are all circling roles in the quickly developing film. Penned by David Scarpa (“The Last Castle,” “The Day The Earth Stood Still“), the film will tell the true story of the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, the heir to the Getty oil fortune, and his mother’s desperate attempt to get the cash for the ransom from the boy’s stubborn grandfather. Williams would be Gail Harris, the part that Natalie Portman, who is no longer attached, would’ve played, with Spacey as J. Paul Getty, and Wahlberg as an ex-CIA agent.
No deals are locked yet, but holy moly, if it has this kind of powerhouse ensemble, you can bet Sony, who have secured the worldwide rights on the project, will want the always fast-moving Scott to have this one ready for Oscar season. Not only that, they’ll want to beat Danny Boyle‘s brewing FX series “Trust,” about the same subject matter, to the punch, with that series shooting this summer and penciled in for a January debut. Um, I thought Ridley Scott was only making Alien movies from now on? Didn’t he say he wants less than a two year turn around on them?
Scott works fast. I don’t think he’s gone over schedule on a film in years. He shot, finished & released The Martian about 10 months after Exodus: Gods & Kings came out. Most likely he’ll shoot “Money In the World” this year for a release in 2018 (or even this December if they really move) while the next Alien is in pre-production & then he’ll shoot Alien in 2018 for a release in 2019.
As long as he doesn’t get distracted by another project that is. And that happens a lot.
