“I have been saving up my money since ‘Sicko’ to get to this day. I will always make my own movies. Now I have my own money to make them.” Michael Moore says he will self-finance his films after “Capitalism: A Love Story?”
Don’t believe the hype too much. This is Moore believing cynically that after skewering Wall Street, capitalism as an idea and therefore the studio suits that funded this money, no one will want to fund a Michael Moore film post-‘Capitalism.’
We don’t buy it. The Michael Moore satirizing business is a good one and if someone gave him money after the barely-watched, “Sicko” (which was great and worth watching), studios will continue to give him money. Don’t fret at the contradictions, Michael. If they’re going to give you money to make a movie, use it and stick ’em with the bill. [Independent]
Unfortunately people like Michael Moore who have it in their power to bring recognition to things in a skillful way often polarize themselves (on both ends of the political spectrum), there in by failing to reach out to the other side of an argument, and only support those who already support the topics at hand… a shame really but overly true.
The "barely-watched" Sicko actually made a nice profit ($33M worldwide B.O. + video from a $9M budget). Much less than Fahrenheit 911, but still more than almost all other documentaries.
ah the idea of having enough money to say eff the studios sounds great
