We’ve written thousands and thousands of words about Disney’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” From the crazy behind-the-scenes drama that resulted in the directors being fired after almost finishing production to the box office results that were disappointing, to say the least, it feels like we’ve covered every inch of the film. And one of those little wrinkles in our reporting was the exclusion of actor Michael K. Williams from the “Star Wars” film. But despite his, seemingly, drama-filled experience on ‘Solo,’ the actor is still keen on getting back to the galaxy far, far away.

As we reported in March, Williams has already discussed the drama that surrounded his role as Dryden Vos being cut completely from the finished film. When Ron Howard came aboard to re-jigger the film, by shooting up to 70% of it from scratch, one of the major changes was Paul Bettany coming in to become the new version of Vos, replacing Williams, who was unavailable for the extensive reshoots.
So, the first question posed to the actor by Variety on a recent red carpet is simple — has he even seen the Williams-less finished product? “I have not had the chance to see ‘Solo’ but shout out to my castmates,” Williams said. “Even though I didn’t make the final cut, they’re still my cast mates. I love you guys.”
However, on the positive side, this allows Williams the rare opportunity to give the “Star Wars” franchise a second shot, with a whole different character. And that’s an idea that appeals to him. When asked if he’s going to eventually see ‘Solo,’ he took the opportunity to drop a little hint for Lucasfilm, saying, “I’m quite sure I’ll get around to it but I’m more interested in getting another shot in being in that galaxy…I would love another opportunity to be in ‘Star Wars.’”
Williams is an incredible actor that has proven in a variety of roles (most notably for this writer, his performance as Omar on the incredible HBO crime-drama “The Wire). The “Star Wars” universe would be lucky to have him back.
