We’ve known for quite some time that Pete Docter’s “Up” follow-up, the ambitious “Inside Out,” would take “place inside of a girl’s mind and it is about her emotions as characters” and last year Pixar unveiled the starry cast. Now, with over a year ago until its theatrical release, the animation studio has posted a synopsis online, giving us a clear look at the direction of the film, and a familiar name gets added to the film.
First up (via First Showing), Michael Giacchino will reunite with Docter for “Inside Out” after previously scoring “Up” for the filmmaker. The 2015 film will mark the fifth time Giacchino has scored a Pixar film but it won’t be the only film next year that finds the composer reuniting with a former collaborator, as Giacchino’s also handling scoring duties for Brad Bird’s secretive “Tomorrowland.”
Docter’s animated film has also kept things close to chest but the plan is changing as earlier this week saw Pixar posting the synopsis for “Inside Out” on its website (via Slashflim). It looks as though the film will continue Docter’s knack for finding strong emotional hooks in stories that may otherwise seem silly. You’ll have to wait until next year, however, to see whether the film will emotionally wreck you as much as the opening sequence to “Up” did. “Inside Out” hits theaters June 19th, 2015. Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).
The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
