Michael Cera Reveals He’s Shot ‘Crystal Fairy’ A New Movie With Sebastian Silva; ‘Magic Magic’ Next

Oh hey, remember just last month when Sony snapped up Sebastian Silva's thriller "Magic Magic" starring Michael Cera, Juno Temple, Emily Browning and Catalina Sandeno Moreno with a spring start in mind? Well, while that one is headed towards cameras later this spring, the "Arrested Development" actor reveals he's already got another movie with "The Maid" director in the can.

Stopping by Marc Maron's WTF Podcast Cera talked about the film he's already completed. "It's called 'Crystal Fairy,' it's about this woman named Crystal Fairy who's this hippie strange woman. And she's in Santiago [Chile] and so am I. And I'm this American also and we meet and… it's so funny describing it out loud. It's kind of a meandering movie, there's not really a thrust to it," he explained adding it was shot in 12 days on a shoestring budget, and he expects it will go the festival route for now. But there's more to come as he adds: "We're doing another movie together this year. We're doing these two films." 

The second movie he's referring to is a starrier pic, which, to refresh your memory, tells the tale of a girl vacationing with her friends in a remote area of Chile while she slowly starts losing her mental faculties. She tries to get her friends' attention, but they ignore her until it's too late. Already it sounds off the beaten path for George Michael Bluth, who will also speak Spanish in the movie, though he won't be for the entire film. "This movie we're going to do this year, I'm going to be speaking Spanish in it," he says. "Not the whole movie but my character is fluent."

Certainly, these are some interesting projects on the horizon from the actor, and he's excited to be taken out of the "Arrested Development"/quirky/awkward character box: "What's fun is to find a director who has no preconceived notion of what using me means," he says. "Whereas here [in the U.S.] I feel like there might be [another motivation]. If someone's putting me in a movie and putting money into it, it's maybe because they're expecting a certain thing. But [Silva] doesn't have that. So it's nice to work with someone who doesn't give a shit about your career arc and are just using you in this way that they think is amusing."

And he hopes to keep defying expectations, telling Maron, "I'd like to do a weird, very alienating film. Like a Michael Haneke movie or something. I think that would be really fun." We'd like to see that too, and we're more curious than ever about what he's cooking up with Silva.
