Got a Tip?

Maybe It Doesn’t Sink This Time? Trailer For ‘Titanic 3D’

nullThe second highest grossing movie of all time, winner of 11 Academy Awards and the movie that launched the careers of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, this is no denying that James Cameron's "Titanic" was as big as the iceberg that sunk the fabled ship. And now, on the 15th anniversay of the movie's release and the 100th anniversary of the ship's maiden (and final) voyage, "Titanic" is wading back into theaters, this time in 3D.

Painstakingly converted by Cameron — with footage showed off earlier this year to select folk who largely gushed about what the new format is supposedly bringing to the movie — it's still the same "Titanic" you know and love/loathe, with 3D doing nothing to erase that awful Celine Dion song. The real question is whether or not audiences will tolerate those clunky glasses for a movie that runs over three hours long, but they'll most likely be too busy crying into their commemorative buckets of popcorn to care.

"Titanic 3D" will sail into your local multiplex on April 6, 2012 and probably make Jim Cameron a bajillion more dollars. Trailer and new poster below. [Facebook; embed via ComingSoon]

  1. Titanic is such a litmus test for me. Katya and StephenM fail. Such an awesome movie, can't wait to see it in 3D, and I don't feel like I'm taking James Cameron's wealthy dick in my ass by doing so. Chill the fuggout, it's just a movie.

  2. Cameron is an auteur, maybe not one people like or admire but there’s no denying what this mans invaluable contribution to this industry. And Cameron in no way milks his babies like, say, George Lucas does. At least Cameron has respect for his work enough not to tinker them into the grave. Hi Georgie! Yes, Cameron might me a money hungry billionaire, but this film is a cinematic pillar of our time. And its about the one film re-release in 3D that the public wants. Yes, we all went back to see The Lion King in 3D – but did we really ask for it? And while Avatar made more than Titanic, it didn’t have the culture and everlasting impact that Titanic did. Which is why people will want to re-experience it and why new viewers will fall in love with it.

  3. This release will make $400 million worldwide easily. Maybe a lot more. Cameron and Leo are Superstars. Larger than life. Kate is more life size, but still cool. Theater penetration in foreign markets is deeper than its ever been. Believe it or not, there are many people who never saw the original in theaters or even at all. They'll want to know what all the hoopla was about. All those former teen girls who saw the film 500 times in theaters will want to recapture their youth, and will go see it again. This is going to be huge.

  4. "THE WORLD'S MOST BELOVED AND ACCLAIMED FILM"—-I think I just puked on my keyboard. I am seriously, deeply offended by that statement. Also, how the titles in the trailer only gave credit to Cameron, calling him "the visionary director of Avatar" and having only his name "written and directed by James Cameron" at the end of the trailer. People like it because of Leo and Kate (however misplaced that like is), not because of Cameron, and his narcissism and greed and is really starting to wear thin.

  5. I don't really feel like it's about milking it. A lot of people love this move- me included- and I will be seeing it for the millionth time when it comes out in theaters. The movies have changed and are no longer about the experience, but when I saw Avatar and when I go to see Titanic, I feel that they are.

  6. C'est la vie. I will see this and not because I want to add more money into James Cameron's pocket but because I love Titanic…and I love IMAX and tickets just so happen to cost 10 bucks at my local theater!

If it makes it any better, I will never pay money to see a Twilight movie.

  7. Anyone who goes to see this is living in the past. Titanic came out 14 years ago and James Cameron is still milking it. Until recently, he was still milking Avatar as well. All those billions of dollars are not enough for him.
