“If you have a facile understanding of the film industry and respond poorly to big personalities, I’m pretty fucking triggering,” Max Landis recently tweeted, responding to a question about why some people continue to feel bitterness toward the filmmaker. He’s certainly not shy about voicing his many opinions, and is eager to dish out criticism (even if he’s less receptive to it himself), and when it comes to charges of nepotism, he says the door to the industry opened by his father John Landis has its limits.
“I would never deny that being John Landis’s son had some role in my start,” Max Landis told The New York Times. “But if you’ve worked in this industry, you know how many checks and balances there are. I’ve had so many meetings with people who don’t like John Landis — which is an even more awkward experience.”

Well, all that being said, Landis will certainly face plenty of scrutiny as he’s signed up to write and direct a remake of his father’s horror comedy classic “An American Werewolf In London.” It should be noted this remake is nothing new, and has been in the works for about a decade, and back in 2010, Fernley Phillips (“The Number 23,” “U Want Me 2 Kill Him?“) was initially attached to write it, so things could’ve gone much differently.
Taking on his Dad’s beloved cult classic will certainly be the biggest job Max Landis has had yet, with all the responsibility for its successes and/or failures firmly on his shoulders. But however you might feel about it, there are probably few in Hollywood who would take this job on with as much passion as Landis. [Deadline]
