Got a Tip?

Matthew McConaughey, Kate Beckinsale, & Henry Golding Sign On For Guy Ritchie’s Latest Crime Thriller

One of the biggest announcements to come out of this year’s Cannes Film Festival is the news that filmmaker Guy Ritchie is returning to his roots in the gritty, offbeat crime genre for his next film, “Toff Guys.” At the time, we didn’t know much, other than the basic synopsis that says the film will focus on an English drug lord that is attempting to leave the criminal life and cash out by selling his empire to some Oklahoma billionaires. But now, almost 6 months later, we know who might be on the English side and the Oklahoman side of the deal.

Miramax announced that Matthew McConaughey, Kate Beckinsale, and Henry Golding will star in the film that is set to start filming in the fall. No work on which actor plays what roles, but considering McConaughey’s clear southern American accent, we’re going out on a limb and saying he’s on the Oklahoman side of the equation.

McConaughey has a trio of high-profile projects on the horizon. His most recent film, “White Boy Rick,” has made the festival circuit and hit theaters recently. That film is expected to put the actor in awards conversations. He also has the thriller “Serenity” hitting later this fall, which finds McConaughey acting opposite Anne Hathaway. But perhaps most exciting of all, the Academy Award-winning actor is starring in “The Beach Bum,” from director Harmony Korine.

Henry Golding is perhaps the least famous of the three actors signed on for the film, but that could be changing shortly. The English actor starred in “Crazy Rich Asians,” which has lit up the late-summer/early-fall box office. He followed that up with a role in another box office surprise hit, “A Simple Favor.” And if that wasn’t enough, in addition to Guy Ritchie’s upcoming film, Golding is set to star in Paul Feig’s next work, “Last Christmas,” opposite Emilia Clarke.

As mentioned, there’s no release date for “Toff Guys,” but with filming beginning soon, it’s safe to assume a 2019 release is in the works. But before that can happen, Ritchie has to finish work on his little film from Disney, the live-action “Aladdin,” which is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
