Got a Tip?

Matt Reeves Will Direct ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’

nullWhile he spent his time since "Let Me In" amassing a number of potential projects including the sci-fi "8 O'Clock In The Morning," the Frankenstein feature "This Dark Endeavor," and the vampire flick "The Passage" — not to mention he has his dream project "The Invisible Woman" somewhere brewing — nothing really got rolling for Matt Reeves. But he's now lined up a big studio tentpole and we'd guess if he knocks it out of the park, many of those other movies might pick up more steam.

After a shortlist dropped last week featuring J. Blakeson, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Jeff Nichols, Guillermo del Toro and Juan Antonio Bayona, Reeves has edged out his competitors and has been selected to direct "Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes." It seems Wyatt's departure was but a blip, as the studio is moving full steam ahead to meet the May 23, 2014 release date for the picture. Andy Serkis will of course be returning, and the studio has a script they like from the original film's writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver so all is looking good.

We definitely dig the choice of Reeves, who has a great visual style and storytelling sense and will definitely put his own imprint on the movie. It also sees the helmer stepping up to the big time and we'll be excited to see what he can do in a bigger sandbox. But what do you think? Is Reeves the right guy for the job? Weigh in below.
