I know this isn’t a shock to say, but superhero film fans can be very reactionary. After the huge success of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” last year, fans were anxiously awaiting confirmation that a sequel was getting made. When that didn’t happen immediately, people started rumors about Warner Bros. hating the film, wanting to reboot the franchise again, and some even said it was all part of a plan to bring Ben Affleck back to the world of ‘Batman.’ Alas, it was eventually revealed that Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin were crafting a script for a sequel, and the reason nothing was confirmed is because, well, there was nothing to confirm or greenlight. Now, with a script being worked on for quite a while, it appears Warner Bros. Discovery is finally ready to reveal the release date for what is now titled “The Batman Part II.”
As part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s big unveiling of the new DC Studios slate (and what a slate it is!), the studio confirmed “The Batman Part II” is arriving on October 3, 2025 (via THR). The date isn’t so much a surprise. When you use logic and figure out how long it takes a filmmaker like Reeves to work on a feature, it makes sense. But the real news here is that fans who are freaking out about when “The Batman” sequel is arriving will finally have their date and maybe, just maybe they can rest easy and not come up with ridiculous rumors.

Debuting in March 2022, Matt Reeves’ reboot, “The Batman,” completely changed how the character is presented on screen. Instead of the more superhero-y version in Zack Snyder’s “Batman v. Superman” or “Justice League,” Reeves’ iteration of the character is younger, much more brooding, and incredibly realistic, if you can claim a superhero film as “realistic.” His take focused more on the psychology of the character versus the big, bombast of previous versions. Taking a cue from Christopher Nolan but dialing up the “gritty” even higher, “The Batman” was a runaway success, earning more than $770 million worldwide.
The film was so successful, it kickstarted WB’s desire for a whole new spinoff franchise, led first by the upcoming release of “The Penguin,” which features Colin Farrell reprising his role from the original film. There are also rumors of more series to follow.
A sequel was never in question, even though nothing was announced. Clearly, Reeves is more concerned with taking his time and getting the story right than actually rushing into the sequel. And because of that, we will have a more significant gap between films than fans were probably hoping for. That said, if the quality of the new film is equal to “The Batman,” the sequel will be well worth the wait.
