Got a Tip?

Mathieu Kassovitz Joins Michael Haneke’s ‘Happy End’

While the summer movie season can quickly induce cynicism and weariness as one blockbuster after another arrives to dull the senses, you can take comfort in knowing that more artistically inclined filmmakers are busy at work. And one of the more exciting productions gearing up is Michael Haneke‘s new film, “Happy End,” which has just added one more player to its ensemble.

La Provence reveals that actor and filmmaker Mathieu Kassovitz (“Amelie,” “La Haine,” “War & Peace“) has joined the cast which includes Isabelle Huppert (“Amour,” “Time Of The Wolf,” “The Piano Teacher“) and Jean-Louis Trintignant (“Amour”). It will be the actor’s first time working with Haneke, and he will reportedly be playing Huppert’s brother (it will be his first time working with the actress as well).

Plot details on the movie are scarce at the moment, but it’s said to be centered on a bourgeois, European family, with elements about the refugee crisis in the mix as well. Production will begin this summer, and it’s a safe bet that Thierry Fremaux already has a seat reserved in the Palais at the Cannes Film Festival next spring for Haneke.
