Massive Attack Commission Indie Directors For Songs On ‘Helgioland’

Yesterday, Bristol trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack released their long-awaited fifth album Heligoland to mixed reviews from critics and fans. Along with it, they’ve commissioned seven filmmakers to create short films to accompany some selections from the new album. Including the previously released clips for “Splitting the Atom” and “Paradise Circus,” only four clips have been posted online so far, but they range from pornographic to abstract in their content. The filmmaking talent includes previous Massive Attack video director Baillie Walsh amongst other lesser known (and in one possibly accidental case completely uncredited) directors. Thus far the clips aren’t anything too special, but in the case of “Paradise Circus,” the quite NSFW video actually services as an interesting short presentation on the reflections of a former adult entertainment actress.
