Got a Tip?

‘Mass Effect’ Goes From XBox To The Big Screen

The wildly successful space adventure role-playing game “Mass Effect” is headed to the big screen. Legendary Pictures have acquired the rights and will co-produce and co-finance the project alongside Warner Bros.

If you haven’t played the game like this writer, it “takes place in the year 2183 and follows a team on a mission to defeat an ancient alien race that invades the galaxy every 50,000 years and wipes out all organic life.” So, it’s sort of like a reverse “Avatar”? With its futuristic outer space setting and humans vs. aliens storyline, it seems like a no-brainer for a big budget production. Will it be in 3D? Nothing official, but we would guess it will be.

Mark Protosevich (“I Am Legend,” “Thor”) is in talks to adapt the game while Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Avi Arad will produce along with Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk and Casey Hudson from the video game side of things. No word yet on a director or cast, but we imagine those pieces won’t come together until a script is in the can.

  1. Its a good, possibly great, GAME. Aside from the issues of actually writing a decent screenplay, they have a starting point for the cast. The voice acting of the various characters was definitely above par. The voice cast includes the likes of Martin Sheen as well as a few Battlestar Galactica alumni, Tricia Helfer and Michael Hogan. Adam Baldwin of Firefly/Serenity and Michael Dorn of Star Trek. Others include Carrie-Anne Moss, Seth Green, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Yvonne Strahovski. But Anonymous is absolutely correct on the 2% odds. Where did that Halo movie go??
