Marvel tends not to show their hand until they’re ready, but it looks like the puzzle pieces for the studio’s long developing "Doctor Strange" are starting to come together. While casting and plot details and all those kinds of things are yet to be revealed, a release date has been slotted for the film.
With a bunch of openings on their slate available, Marvel has set July 8, 2016 for the day the world will see "Doctor Strange." Scott Derrickson is directing the movie, and things are moving along fast. The production is already set to head to the UK’s Pinewood-Shepperton this fall, and filming will start in May 2015. Meanwhile, the biggest question mark is still whether or not Joaquin Phoenix will take the lead role, but our guess is that it’s likely the actor has signed on if this much movement is suddenly happening.
So far, there’s no other movie slated on that July 2016 weekend, and studios will have to be savvy with their counterprogramming to tame the Marvel behemoth. [Screen Daily]
