Unlike Lucasfilm, which is debuting a live-action “Star Wars” series, “The Mandalorian,” on Disney+ launch day, Marvel Studios doesn’t really have anything ready that can compete. However, the studio did decide to debut a new show called “Expanding the Universe,” which might not have shown full versions of any of the various programs Marvel is working on for Disney+, but it did give fans a ton of first looks at some of the shows that are arriving in 2020 and beyond.
Thanks to the fans on Twitter, we now have our first looks at footage from the animated series “What If?” and concept art from the upcoming shows “Hawkeye” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” And as you might expect, there is plenty to talk about.
Perhaps the highlights of all the new Marvel Studios teases are the clips from the various episodes of the upcoming series “What If?” For those unfamiliar with the comic book series that the show is based on, “What If?” is an animated anthology series that will tackle one question per episode. We’ve already heard what some of those scenarios are going to be, such as the “What if Peggy Carter was given the supersoldier serum instead of Steve Rogers?” And thanks to new clips, we can see what would happen in that scenario, as well as episodes about T’Challa becoming Star-Lord, Winter Soldier fighting a zombie version of Captain America, and more.
But it wasn’t just “What If?” clips that were teased. The show also gave us concept art showing some of the costumes and new characters that will be introduced in the upcoming live-action series “Hawkeye” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
The standout of “Hawkeye” concept art is the introduction of Kate Bishop, who is expected to be played by Hailee Steinfeld. She’s the character that many believe will become Hawkeye moving forward in the MCU. And in the art for ‘Falcon,’ we see new costumes for the title characters, as well as our first look at Baron Zemo (last seen in ‘Civil War’ but now sporting a comics-accurate mask) and US Agent, who is set to be played by Wyatt Russell in the new series.
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is expected to launch in fall 2020, with “Hawkeye” and “What If?” following in 2021.
