With Marvel having established a slate of release dates through 2019, now the studio must decide what those movies will be. "The Avengers 3" and "Doctor Strange" seem inevitable, but there’s a handful of long developing projects that may yet see the light of day. Will "The Inhumans" be one of them?
The last we heard about the project was nearly a year ago, when it was rumored that the Lee-Kirby creation would be raw material for a tentpole, but that had been the case since at least 2011. However, today comes news that development for an Inhumans film might be further along than anyone knew.
Collider reports that Joe Robert Cole ("Amber Lake") has turned in an Inhumans script that Marvel likes, and the studio is now seeking filmmakers. And much like "Guardians Of The Galaxy," the expectation is that whichever filmmaker selected will add their own spin on the material, in the same manner that James Gunn did, or Joss Whedon and "The Avengers". In short —Marvel isn’t messing with a lucrative formula.
If you’re not a Marvel Zombie, the Inhumans are a royal family presiding over a race of superhumans dwelling in a hidden city in the Himalayas, and have often teamed up with The Avengers (and Fantastic Four, but that property is at Fox). So maybe "The Avengers 3" will be a mega team up movie? One can dream….
So it would seem "The Inhumans" is inching along….any thoughts on who should direct?
I think the In Humans would best be suited to have an aire of the unsettling or brutal, to me that sounds like Gareth Evans would be a great fit.
BLACK PANTHER !
Anyone but Tim Story.
I think an Inhumans movie would be great, especially if they cast Medusa well. It would add depth to the cosmic side of things for Marvel and make future Guardians/Avengers movies more interesting.
An Inhumans movie would be a good idea story-wise since itâs very different from the Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy. It is more a political drama of a royal alien family then your classic beat-em-up superhero slugfest. In other words, it reads more like Game of Thrones then Avengers, and considering the popularity of GoT, itâs a good time to bring out a movie like this.
Why does this even matter? They obviously want a creative vision that doesn't trump over their financial motives, and whenever someone strays from it they just pull the plug and find someone else. Nice to give filmmakers hope to cut their wings way late in the game, I guess.
Alexander Proyas is the first name that comes to mind with this property based on 'Dark City' alone. But as we've learned, Marvel rarely goes with obvious choices.
