Got a Tip?

Marvel Confirms ‘Loki’ For A Season 2

*Spoilers for the finale of “Loki.”*

Well, Marvel’s Disney+ series “Loki” has come to an end, and spoiler, we’re getting a season two. While the entire cast and creators played coy about whether we’d see “Loki” again and or if there would be a season two– Tom Hiddleston telling Deadline late yesterday, “I have learned, at this point, having said goodbye to the character more than twice, two and a half times maybe, to make no assumptions. We’ll see where the ride goes now”–look, the news was out months ago in January.

At the beginning of the year, the trades reported that head writer Michael Waldron had been tapped to write season two of “Loki” and work on Kevin Feige‘s “Star Wars” project; his rise in Hollywood has been swift. So none of this should be unexpected.

Still, in case you’re unconvinced, at the end of today’s “Loki” season one finale, which spoiler ended on an unresolved cliffhanger, that felt more like traditional TV, the series revealed that Loki’s story would continue in season two, much like Disney’s “The Mandalorian” season two teased “The Book Of Boba Fett,” series, perhaps something that’s going to be a new Disney tactic.

Given the nature of the storyline, which we won’t spoil here, but it’s completely unresolved, expect the entire cast to return for season two, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, etc., etc. and yes *spoiler alert again,* probably Jonathan Majors turning up as Kang again, revealed to the big bad at the end of the season (a tired technique that they already did in “WandaVision,” but at least we’d been introduced to Agatha and had some emotional connection to her).

Before that, we’ll likely see Kang The Conqueror and Majors in “Ant-Man 3” aka, “Ant-Man Quantamanium,” which bodes the question, like “Black Widow,” which tees up “Hawkeye” and Yelena’s appearance in it, are these series, in some ways, just all previews for the next thing that’s coming?

Either way, Hiddleston will be back too. “So, I’m also aware that I’m only playing him because of the audience, really,” he told Deadline. “So, it’s not up to me. But I do love playing him, and every time, I seem to find new, interesting things about him. So, yeah, I’m a temporary passenger on Loki’s journey, but we’ll see.”
