Martin Scorsese Working On A Movie Project About The New York Review Of Books

nullThis past Monday the esteemed literary magazine, The New York Review of Books, celebrated its 50th anniversary and on hand to help document the event was none other than the legendary award-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese. The NYRB celebrated its anniversary at a small private party in Greenwich Village and Scorsese was there with a film crew, interviewing current and past writers. The crew also filmed an event the following night.

Rea Hederman, the publisher of the magazine, told the NY Times that the events “are being documented for possible future use to commemorate our 50th anniversary. Martin Scorsese, a longstanding reader and admirer of the Review, is lending his time and energy to the project.” While it’s not surprising that Martin Scorsese would be interested in a magazine that’s featured contributions ranging from famous authors to Desmond Tutu, it’s still amazing that the 70-year-old filmmaker seemingly never stops working, having recently wrapped his latest feature film “The Wolf of Wall Street” last month.

Over the past decade, Scorsese has made as many documentaries as feature films, with subjects including Bob Dylan, George Harrison, and The Rolling Stones. But, Martin Scorsese has also showcased his interest in literature when he made 2010’s “Public Speaking,” a documentary about author Fran Lebowitz which was made for HBO. We’ll have to wait and see what Scorsese and The New York Review of Books decide to do with the footage they shot this past week, in the meantime, Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” should be coming out later this year.
