You would have to look at people like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra or Johnny Cash to find those who have achieved the same kind of iconic, influential status of Bob Marley. The reggae legend took his unique sound from Jamaica around the world, inspiring millions with his message of togetherness, rebellion and love. And while his face has become an image almost as ubiquitous as that of Che Guevara, a whole new generation of music fans may not be familiar with his work and achievements, but the upcoming, years-in-the-making, Kevin Macdonald-directed documentary, "Marley," will hopefully change that.
As the film gears up to hit theaters next month, Island Records will drop a 2xCD, 3xLP soundtrack featuring 25 songs from Bob Marley. The tunes, which will be presented as they appear in the film, run from his pre-Wailers days to his biggest hits, and for the first time on record, fans will get the live version of "Jammin" performed at the 1978 One Love Peace Concert, during which Marley joined the hands of bitter political rivals Michael Manley and Edward Seaga.
The "Marley" soundtrack will hit stores in the U.K. on April 16th and in the U.S. on April 17th. As for the documentary, it will hit theaters in both the U.S. and U.K. on April 20th. Full tracklist below. [Entertainment Focus; album stream via Soul Culture]
