British actor Mark Strong has made a career playing cinematic bad guys for big studio movies, but there has been one franchise that has been allusive to him: James Bond. The actor revealed to Sky One’s There’s Something About Movies (via Express) that he blew a potential villain role in a James Bond film that Pierce Brosnan led.

“I went up for a villain in a Bond movie [in the] Pierce Brosnan era…And I learnt the lines… and to celebrate I went out for a drink, and I got pissed. I overdid it, and the next day I was severely hungover,” Strong explained to There’s Something About Movies.
The kicker that night out was with pal Daniel Craig, the actor who would later take the Bond role after Brosnan exited the franchise; the actor had yet to make waves in Hollywood. Strong blaming his “Our Friends In The North” co-star for blowing that audition.
“But the irony was, the guy I was out the night before getting pissed with was Daniel Craig. So I blame him,” Strong stated.
There are plenty of chances for Mark Strong to play a Bond villain in the future as “Bond 26” is rumored to be in early development stages with a yet-to-be-named new actor in the 007 role, and the next era of the franchise could allow him to get that notch in his villain belt finally.
Amazon recently acquired franchise co-owner MGM Studios for a massive $8.45 billion.
It’s not like Strong has been struggling to find work over the years; he most recently had a supporting role in Disney‘s “Cruella” prequel starring Emma Stone and Emma Thompson.
