Got a Tip?

Mark Millar Spews More About Probably-Never-Happening ‘Kick-Ass’ Sequel

Remember that time we reported a story about Mark Millar talking about sequels to “Kick-Ass”? And then we reported yet another story where Millar talked even more about possible sequels? Guess, what. We’re doing it again. Because we’re total fucking gluttons for punishment and adore slamming our heads against desks in aggravation (plus at this point, we must just be sick). Empire sat down with Millar and he had a few things to say about the possible sequel:

“It’s gangs going all over New York filming atrocities on their cell phones and putting them on the Internet, trying to outdo each other, all at the behest of Red Mist. My idea for Red Mist was to introduce a super villain that made Heath Ledger’s Joker look like Cesar Romero’s Joker. He’s basically Charles Manson as a super villain.” We’ll sure he’ll handle that in his usually mannered and tasteful way.

Miller spewed more about the character played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin’), and giving his character the name The Motherfucker because he hates to be called McLovin’ (oops). Then he continued with the supposed storyline: “But at the same time we continue the story of Dave and all the complications in his life as he gets deeper and deeper into this dangerous hobby he’s got where he dresses up as a superhero and gets beaten up every night. So he forms a gang and what you’ve got then is all the heroes versus all the villains in a big gang fight.”

The most important part of the article doesn’t even come from Millar but from Empire. “Now there’s no word yet on whether [the sequel] will ever make it to the screen, but here’s what Millar has planned.” Gee, really? “Kick-Ass 2” might take the 2010 award for most-discussed sequel of the year that might not even happen. Millar has believed in the past that the film would start in the spring of 2011 and he’s claimed it has a green light, and both statements are false. Director Matthew Vaughn has “X-Men: First Class” to contend with and he has less than a year to shoot it, edit it and drop it in theaters next June, so there’s absolutely no way on god’s green earth that a “Kick-Ass 2” film will shoot in the spring, let alone next year. But expect Millar to keep flapping his gums away as he’s wont to do and possibly one day we’ll finally just ignore this trainwreck. As for a green light, “Kick Ass” did well on DVD and it has a cult following, but don’t believe a thing until Lionsgate announces that a film is in production. Until then, it’s just more speculation, plus pipe dreams from the always over-eager comic book writer.

  1. FYI, Kick-Ass 2 is a comic book that's being released later this month. It's a sequel to the first series of comics. So, while the actual FILM version is up in the air, the actually story is very real and very much happening.

  2. "a super villain that made Heath Ledger’s Joker look like Cesar Romero’s Joker"

WTF? This guy is the most full-of-shit motherfucker on the planet. That is seriously the most absurdly boastful thing I've ever heard uttered.
