Got a Tip?

Mark Hamill Suggests Key ‘Star Wars’ Character Returns In ‘The Force Awakens’

Star Wars: The Force AwakensYou’ve dissected the new "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" trailer by now, but of course, there will be those examining each frame to try and decipher more clues. Mark Hamill has revealed a little something to consider about the movie which will follow "Star Wars: Episode VI — Return Of The Jedi."

The new teaser’s voiceover (from ‘Jedi’) — "The force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. My sister has it. You have that power, too." — is delivered by Luke Skywalker himself, though he admits that he kept messing up during one crucial part of it.

Speaking with AP, Hamill noted that in re-recording the voiceover, he kept saying, "My father had it." Of course, we all know Luke’s father is none other than Darth Vader, and while we see his ruined mask in the new trailer, the new piece of dialogue referring to him in present tense suggests he’s still alive in some fashion. Maybe he’ll be an Obi-Wan style hologram, like that character in "Star Wars Rebels"? Or as an all encompassing presence in the galaxy? Guess we’ll find out.

But Hamill admits he had some reservations about what was left to tell about Luke Skywalker. “I had a beginning, middle and end. My story was finished," he said at Star Wars Celebration over the weekend (via Hero Complex), adding that George Lucas offered to remove him from the sequels. “He said, ‘If you don’t want to be in it, we won’t recast. We’ll write you out of it.’” But, of course, Hamill realized what the repercussions might be.

"Could you imagine if for some reason I said ‘I don’t think I want to do it?’ I would have all of you surrounding my house like villagers. Angry villagers with lightsabers instead of torches," he told the audience.

And while the wait for ‘The Force Awakens’ release in December is still a long one, check out the new trailer for the second season of "Star Wars Rebels" below. And if you’re a gamer, it’s followed by a new promo for "Star Wars Battleground."

  1. Was I the only one to notice hat you said battleground instead of battlefront? I see this article was written by someone that isn\’t that into star wars… lol

  2. Wow did you really put hologram in this article? Do you even watch the movies? It\’s a force ghost. Only OW, Yoda, and Anakain have this ability to date. It was taught to Yoda who taught it to OW, but it\’s still a mystery how Anakin learned it.

  3. It\’s true that the way these lines are used in the trailer there is some relevance with the story in The Force Awakens and regardless Anakin would still be able to live on through the force but with this specific piece of dialog the actual reason It\’s in the present tense as opposed to the past is because at the time that you hear it in RotJ Vader had not even been defeated, Luke had yet to be instrumental in bringing his Father to the light.

Yes Mark mentioned recording new dialog but this was to be mixed with the old lines, you can hear it in the echo.

  4. The whole line is taken from Episode VI (the scene where Luke tells Leia he\’s going after Darth Vader), maybe that\’s why they kept it in the present tense. It sounds overlapped in the teaser.

  5. I know the prequels are less than desirable which, lets face it, they are. But it would be nice to somewhat tie them into the new sequels. Like a Hayden Christenson voiceover or ghost appearence. Despite his less than stellar acting chops. He is, after all, Anakin Skywalker.

  6. I think we will at least hear the voice of Anakin speaking from beyond to Luke using the Force. There\’s a chance we\’ll see Hayden in ghostly form, but I think they may just go with using his voice and Luke responding with "Father…" so we know…
