Marion Cotillard doesn’t do blockbusters very often. She’s done a couple with Christopher Nolan ("The Dark Knight Rises," "Inception") and Steven Soderbergh ("Contagion"), and had a bit of fun popping up briefly in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," but for the most part she doesn’t step into big expensive pieces of entertainment, unless she has a good reason. And she seems to have found them for "Assassin’s Creed."
The actress will re-team with her "Macbeth" co-star Michael Fassbender and director Justin Kurzel for the video game adaptation — one of many that are on the way — that follows Desmond Miles, a bartender kidnapped by a corporation and forced to use a machine called the Animus, which allows him to relive the memories of his ancestor Altair, who was an Assassin in the Middle East during the Crusades. No word yet on Cotillard’s role, but of course, if the movie is a hit she’s expected to return for sequels.
"Assassin’s Creed" opens on December 21, 2016. [Deadline]
YES! It\’s a dream news for me. Really. In the depth of my soul, I knew that it\’s goint to happen, that Marion will take a role in Assassin\’s Creed. It\’s so damn well connects with her role of assassin in The Dark Knight Rises!!! I\’m so happy for Assassin\’s Creed to have such a magnificent actress and for Marion to play in an adaptation of such an interesting game!
