Margot Robbie Says ‘Suicide Squad’ Is More ‘The Dark Knight’ Than ‘Avengers’; David Ayer Says Joker Is “Majestic”

Focus, Margot RobbieA frame has yet to be shot from "Suicide Squad," not to mention that the film due before it, the superhero packed "Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice," is still awaiting its first teaser trailer. There is plenty of curiosity about both movies, which will mark very significant steps in establishing DC Comics on the big screen, as they attempt to get into the same sandbox as their rivals at Marvel. However, they are sticking with a playbook established by Christopher Nolan‘s Batman movies for the tone of their efforts.

“I think on a scale of like, ‘The Dark Knight‘ is here and ‘The Avengers‘ is here, I think it’s more on the ‘Dark Knight’ side of things,” the actress teased to MTV. And like anyone signing up for a franchise these days, Robbie is in for the long haul.

“You don’t need to have commitment issues to be frightened by the fact that you might have just signed 10 years of your life away,” she told AZ Central, though it’s an opportunity she relishes. “With [Harley Quinn], it’s a character I don’t think would ever get boring. Ever. So if they did ‘Suicide Squad’ one, two and three, I would be over the moon about it.”

Another character dancing into view with "Suicide Squad" is Jared Leto‘s take on the Joker. And while there’s a bit more secrecy about the iconic villain, director David Ayer had one simple word when it came to describing the baddie, and you can see it in the tweet below.

Meanwhile, Jason Momoa, a.k.a. Aquaman, is doing his best not to reveal too much about what his appearance might be in ‘Batman v. Superman,’ but it sounds small, as she says he’s yet to film any action sequences. "…we haven’t done too much on the action yet. You know, ‘Justice League‘ is still quite a ways away. But I’m looking forward to it. Henry’s a sweetheart, Ben is a badass, so I’m really looking forward to when we all shoot ‘Justice League,’ " he told EW.

And while he does confirm Aquaman’s appearance in ‘Batman v. Superman’ was "supposed to be a surprise in 2016," he reiterates that the focus is elsewhere. "Well, it’s Batman and Superman, it’s not my movie. It’s the first time in history to have them both on the screen together, and I’m just excited to see those two up there," he said, and Momoa is not the only one.

"Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice" arrives on March 25, 2016 with "Suicide Squad" following on August 5, 2016.

  1. Wonderful to see Margot Robbie getting a role in a franchise like this. The studios love her, she was spectacular in Focus, whether you liked the ending or not. For a 24 year old actress, she\’s got it all going on. Talent, looks, and a great reputation. It\’s nice to see women like her get the recognition they deserve.

  2. Not surprising, what with the Suicide Squad being the opposite of the Avengers in just about every way imaginable. DC\’s Avengers are called the Justice League, Margot.
