In February of this year it was reported that “Quantum of Solace” director Marc Forster(who also helmed, “Stranger Than Fiction” and “The Kite Runner” to name a few) was eyeing the Kurt Cobain biopic that Courtney Love is executive producing (as in thinking about directing it, in “talks” as it were).
Asked by MTV if he was directing the film he answered, “that’s not correct,” and his involvement with the project was just “a rumor.”
Maybe we should be linguists or something, but right after that he basically contradicts himself and says, he hopes the project will be great because“it’s a cool concept.” Well, he must have read it and known something about the project if he knows it’s a cool concept, no? (it’s been written by David Benioff (“The 25 Hour,” “Troy,” and umm, “Wolverine”) Who knows, but it sure sounds like he did have those conversations with the producers at one point.
We’re such sticklers, it might be the death of us one day. Anyhow… Marc Forster, not directing the Kurt Cobain biopic. As you were.
In all honesty, its going to be difficult to find a director to take this project on, because of who's in charge of producing, and casting. The title Heavier Than Heaven is a good one, based on the definitive biography by Charles Cross, whomever signs on to do this project will have to adhere to things from a one sided view, not from EVERYONE's view which is what is should be. Novoselic, Grohl, Kurt's family, Pat Smear, and friends from subpop, K records, his Ex Tracy Marander, Tobi Vail, and Kate Hannah from Bikini Kill, ya know, those who knew him best in order to give an ACCURATE portrayal. Also, get the right actors who can offer alot to the roles. whether they be A list, or new young up and comers, or perhaps no names who've acted in such films like I dont know Across The Universe, for example.
Joe Anderson to play Kurt Cobain, he looks like him, he's fairly young, and can actually SING, and perform! why not give him a shot.
Evan Rachael Wood to play Courtney Love…. in trueblood she proved that she can portray a more badass/vocal person than the loving suburban hippy in Across the Universe. a little scraggily makeup, with blonde hair, and there ya go.
Krist Novoselic to be played by: Keanu Reeves. He's a bit older, BUT he's tall, with dark hair, has a very laid back demeanor, and he does actually play bass in his own band, why not utilize these things to bring it to life for the role.
Jim Sturgess who played the lead, JUDE in Across the Universe. for Dave Grohl. he's got the scruffy boyishness, and can actually sing as well, for example, think of Joe Anderson and Jim Sturgess doing their own live backups to a live performance of "Polly" it can be the same beautiful harmonious sound that Kurt and Dave themselves did live many times. to be a drummer, he may need to learn some pantomimes, if he doesnt actually know how to play…
But we do have alot of better options to consider for this movie, if its to be a true to life, true to appearence, and true to itself, in general…
