Disney isn’t stupid. The studio is well aware that one of the biggest, if not the biggest, attraction for many subscribers of Disney+ is “The Mandalorian.” In December, when the world was ranting and raving about “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” with the fandom debating whether it was good, bad, or the worst thing ever, most would agree that “The Mandalorian” is great. So, it’s obvious why Disney+ was already deep into work on Season 2, which isn’t supposed to arrive until October of this year. And now, apparently, the studio is so bullish on the show, it already has Jon Favreau working on Season 3.
According to Variety, “sources close to the production” have confirmed that ‘Mandalorian’ creator-writer-producer Jon Favreau is already writing Season 3, and he has been doing so “for a while.” Yes, we’re likely six months away from Season 2 hitting Disney+, but with the long lead time for Season 3, the report claims that it gives production design people plenty of time to work on more episodes without missing a beat.
Obviously, with Season 2 still months away, there’s no way of knowing what’s in store with the characters for Season 3. The last we saw, the Mandalorian was going on another adventure with Baby Yoda, aka The Child, in search of the character’s home planet. And in Season 2, we know that a lot of the characters from the first batch of episodes are set to return, as well as new people like Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson.

“The Mandalorian” Season 3 isn’t the only “Star Wars” live-action series that is currently being written. Recently, it was announced that the long-in-development “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series just hired a new writer and will be overhauled before production begins. And then, of course, we know that “Cassian Andor” is also in development, with a couple of new actors being added to the cast.
