Got a Tip?

Season 2 Of ‘The Mandalorian’ Will Reportedly Feature Several Established Skywalker Saga Characters

There are plenty of fans that would say “The Mandalorian” succeeds, in large part, to the fact that the series doesn’t rely so heavily on nostalgia and established “Star Wars” characters. That being said, Disney, being the moneymaker it is, has a great idea for Season 2 — what if “The Mandalorian” had even more established characters making appearances? Ugh.

According to Deadline, “insiders” tell the outlet that “The Mandalorian” Season 2, which is announced to be arriving sometime in Fall 2020, is set to feature “several established characters” from the Skywalker Saga. What that means is still a mystery, but it’s clear that Disney/Lucasfilm would like to keep on pushing that nostalgia button and sucker more viewers in with teases from the films they know and love.

However, as mentioned before, will the inclusion of Skywalker Saga characters contradict some of the best parts of “The Mandalorian?” That’s the question that will be bothering fans for the better part of 2020. With ‘Rise of Skywalker’ attempting to throw everything and the kitchen sink into the film (The Emperor is back, and you all love him, right? How about Chewy getting that medal? etc…), “The Mandalorian” felt like this reprieve from the Lucasfilm nostalgia machine. Sure, it features familiar locations, similar characters and situations seen in films before, and a Boba Fett-esque character, but it actually feels like something new. At least, “new” compared to the Disney output of “Star Wars” films over the last five years.

All that said, teasing the inclusion of established characters might mean nothing more than some glorified cameos and familiar faces stepping on screen, saying a line, winking at the camera, and moving about their merry way. If that’s the case, while annoying, that’s definitely not the end of the world. And hopefully, with Jon Favreau leading the way, it could be done in a way that only minimizes the annoyance.

But then again, we’re talking about Disney, aren’t we?
