‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘Parasite,’ ‘Euphoria’ Earn 2020 Art Directors Guild Awards Nominations

History was made today as the Art Directors Guild awarded Disney Plus and Lucasfilm’s “The Mandalorian” its first guid nomination as the 2020 Art Directors Guild Awards were announced.  On a day that saw Apple TV Plus land its first Golden Globe nods, it’s significant how quickly the new streaming players are making a mark this awards season.  Also noteworthy was a nomination in the Contemporary Film category for Bong Joon Ho’s “Parastite,” a rare nod for a non-English language film which demonstrates how the NEON release is resonating throughout the industry.

Other major nominees on the film side included “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” “Joker,” “Ford v. Ferrari,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Dumbo,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “John Wick: Chapter 3,” “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” and “Us.” On the television and streaming side, “The Boys,” “Euphoria,” “Big Little Lies,” “Fleabag” and “Russian Doll” were also recognized.

Surprising snubs in both fields included “Watchmen,” “Little Women,” “Stranger Things,” “The Two Popes,” and “Rocketman.”

The 2020 Art Directors Guild Awards will be handed out on Feb. 1, 2020.
