During Quentin Tarantino‘s recent interview of many juicy quotes, he tossed a soft stinger toward David Robert Mitchell‘s horror hit "It Follows," explaining why the movie missed out on being truly great. "It was the best premise I’ve seen in a horror film in a long, long, long time. It’s one of those movies that’s so good you get mad at it for not being great," Tarantino said, going on to elaborate why the movie didn’t make the grade: "He could have kept his mythology straight. He broke his mythology left, right, and center." Well, Mitchell has responded.
Hitting Twitter, the filmmaker quipped he’d like to sit down with Tarantino because "I have a few notes of my own for you," but later said his tweet "was meant to be humorous and not disrespectful." But you know what? Someone really should get Mitchell and Tarantino in a room together, and put a camera on them, because I’m sure that conversation would be utterly fascinating.
In fact, both "It Follows" and Tarantino’s upcoming "The Hateful Eight" are coming from the house of Harvey Weinstein (the former via Radius, the latter via The Weinstein Company) and it would be a terrific bit of promotion for both movies to get the filmmakers together to talk about their work. So, there’s my free idea of the day, Harvey. Just be sure to send me an invite to the talk.
"It Follows" is now on VOD on Blu-ray, and "The Hateful Eight" opens on Christmas Day.
Hey QT, why don’t we get together over a beer and talk about these notes. I have a few of my own for you.

Like all of you, I’m a Tarantino fan. My comment was meant to be humorous and not disrespectful. #respect

I love Tarantino\’s movies, but his comments on It Follows were pure nonsense. He needs to rewatch the movie.
Tarantino knows what he\’s talking about and his comment about IT FOLLOWS was absolutely correct and I like the movie but Mitchell needs to listen and learn
In this case Tarantino was right; It Follows fell short of plumbing the thru-line of its allegory. A good not great film. Ironically, imho, Tarantino hasn\’t made a great film since "Pulp Fiction" – only "good ones." QT does stick to his mythology, but it\’s purely a self-reflexive movie trope/genre mythology – it\’s a caricaturist view of issues like slavery and WW2.
No only Tarantino\’s comment was valid concerning It Follows… but it applies to many a "good" flick out there, where you just can tell they weren\’t even trying to be great.
