“Magic Mike 3” is happening. Well, technically it’s called “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.” But the fact that Steven Soderbergh and Channing Tatum are reuniting for one more round of shirtless dance scenes is probably enough to get film fans excited. Now, when you add someone like Thandiwe Newton to the mix, well things get even more interesting.

According to THR, Thandiwe Newton has joined the cast of the upcoming HBO Max film, “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.” While her role isn’t revealed, it’s expected that Newton will have the female lead of the feature, which sees Channing Tatum continue the story of his stripper character, Mike Lane. And as mentioned, Soderbergh is returning to the director’s chair for the film, having passed on the duties for the previous feature, “Magic Mike XXL.” The writer of the first two films, Reid Carolin, is also back.
Newton is no stranger to high-profile projects. Most recently, she’s starred in the HBO series, “Westworld.” She has also had roles in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” “Reminiscence,” and Xavier Dolan’s “The Death & Life of John F. Donovan.” She’s been a constant fixture in films and TV dating back more than two decades.
“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” is yet another film in the collaboration between Soderbergh and HBO Max. The relationship began with “Let Them All Talk” back in 2020 and continued this year with “No Sudden Move.” He’s also putting the finishing touches on his next film, “KIMI.” It’s unclear when “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” will begin production, but, at the pace the filmmaker works, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see the feature before the end of 2022.
