Toni Collette has had quite a busy 2022, starring in two limited series, Netflix‘s “Pieces Of Her” and HBO Max‘s “The Staircase.” Filmwise, she also stars in “The Estate,” which hit limited theaters last month. Now, Collette kicks off 2023 with “Mafia Mamma,” an action comedy from “Miss Bala” director Catherine Hardwicke.
In “Mafia Mamma,” Collette stars as a woman who winds up running her family’s mafia empire and somehow, against all odds, turns out to be pretty good at it.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis, courtesy of Bleecker Street:
MAFIA MAMMA follows an insecure American woman who inherits her grandfather’s mafia empire in Italy. Guided by the firm’s trusted consigliere, she hilariously defies everyone’s expectations, including her own, as the new head of the family business.
Alongside Collette, “Mafia Mamma” stars Monica Bellucci as Collette’s consigliere. The filmalso stars Giulio Corso, Francesco Mastroianni, Alfonso Perugini, and Sophia Nomvete. Eduardo Scarpetta, Tim Daish, and Tommy Rodger round out the main cast.
Hardwicke directs a script by J. Michael Feldman & Debbie Jhoon, who worked together on TV series like “Kevin From Work” and “A.P. Bio.” Collette co-produces the film with Christopher Simon and Amanda Sthers.
