Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen a number of canceled shows find new life with revivals after years of being off the air. And with that trend not stopping anytime soon, there are plenty of fans that would love to see NBC’s “Hannibal” get revived for a fourth season. And according to an interview with IndieWire, one of the show’s stars, Mads Mikkelsen, knows exactly where he’d like to go if a Season 4 was given the greenlight.
“I don’t think it’s a secret that if it does happen, we would love to go into ‘Silence of the Lambs,’” Mikkelsen said. “That’s always been an issue because they didn’t have the rights for that book. But that’s obviously the most famous part and we’d love to go in there.”
He continued, “We’d obviously switch it around a little and do all kinds of crazy stuff with it. That story is so interesting and the characters in it are as interesting. We’d switch around the genders and maybe even put two characters into one. We would love to find someone to play Buffalo Bill. That’s going to be tough. We found a Hannibal, so it’s possible.”
As for who he thinks would be a good Buffalo Bill, Mikkelsen has a specific actor in mind, though the actor has already appeared on the series.
“We already used Michael Pitt for Mason and that was fantastic. If he wasn’t playing Mason I’d love to see him as Buffalo Bill,” said Mikkelsen.
Unfortunately, it appears that all this “Silence of the Lamb” discussion is probably for nothing. You see, MGM still holds the rights to the story and has recently passed on giving them to “Hannibal” in favor of using Clarice Starling in a new series, aptly titled “Clarice,” which is set to debut on CBS and serve as a sequel to ‘Silence.’ So, at this point, it appears unlikely that a “Hannibal” Season 4 is going to get the go-ahead, at least if the folks involved are deadset on using the story from ‘Silence of the Lambs.”
