Got a Tip?

Mads Mikkelsen Explains His “Crazy” Audition For ‘Fantastic Four,’ Still Open To Playing Doctor Doom

Earlier this year, the always great Mads Mikkelsen revealed that he “walked out” of his audition to play Doctor Doom in 20th Century Fox’s “Fantastic Four.” Ultimately, he dodged a superhero trainwreck, but the actor would like to clarify some details about that process.

“I didn’t walk out. When I left it, I was just like – this is crazy. I don’t even have long arms. What am I doing in here? The audition was only about long arms. No lines. I felt a little funny,” Mikkelsen told ScreenGeek.

Long arms or not, it does sound like he walked out of the audition, though perhaps he didn’t want to give the impression that he exited the room in a storm of fury. It mostly just sounds like the entire thing was pretty weird and he just didn’t gel with it. Fair enough. But with the news that Doctor Doom is getting his own movie for some reason, Mikkelsen isn’t closing the door on playing the baddie.

“Yeah, it’s always interesting. They are experimenting with doing some of the villain’s stories as well. Let’s see if they do that. I’m not familiar that they’ve done it with anyone yet. They haven’t done it with The Joker [and] they haven’t done it with The Penguin. So we’ll see when that day comes,” he said.

Honestly, it sounds like he won’t ever close the door to playing anything, but it’s very much in the frame of mind of “If they call, sure I’ll answer, but who knows.”

Mikkelsen’s next movie is the recently wrapped survival tale “Arctic.”
