Filmmakers Aaron Aites and Audrey Ewell are best known for their work on documentaries “Until the Light Takes Us” and “99%: The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film,” but with the recently released short “Memory Box,” the duo is taking their shot at sci-fi. The short film stars Mackenzie Davis and the voice of Shane Carruth, but there’s more to the story than just what’s onscreen.

“Memory Box” tells the tale of a young mother who works for a service that recreates memories for clients using actors. However, the young woman’s job is jeopardized when a client asks her to push her limits and do something she’s not comfortable with. “Memory Box” is the first time the Aites and Ewell have attempted a fictional story, and unfortunately it’s the last film the filmmakers will work on together. Earlier this year, Aites, passed away after a long battle with cancer, and Ewell finished “Memory Box” in his memory with the hope that the film will gain enough attention to warrant a wider release.
Ewell also started an Indiegogo page to help in those efforts, and both filmmakers had hoped “Memory Box” would be a proof of concept for a larger full-length feature. No word on whether or not this will come to fruition, but audiences can watch the thought-provoking short film and see for themselves. [Nerdist]
